The importance and advantage of learning as
many languages as we can cannot be over-emphasized. It broadens your ability to
communicate with and understand a wide range of persons. It broadens your world
view because each language cannot be separated from the world-view of the
owners of the language and it makes you have a better view of the world in
general.
In that vein, this article, we want to begin with
the basics of learning the Igbo Language. This is the Alphabets. The Alphabets
is the basic of all languages. Thus, in this article, we are going to present
to you the 36 IGBO ALPHABETS as well as how they are used in some Igbo words
and their equivalent sound in the English language
It is important for the reader to
understand that there are some Igbo Alphabets that have a special peculiarity
to the Igbo language. In other words, their sound does not have an equivalent
in English. This mostly occur in digraphs (a pair of letters representing a
single phoneme)
